Hjejlen is the oldest original coal-fired paddle steamer in the world, which is still in operation – and you can experience it right in the heart of lake district throughout the summer!

It will take you for an experience back in time, bestowing you with unique insights into historic routines, which have been upheld for more than 150 years. Watch as the stoker throws coal under the boiler, or as the engineer greases the old machine, which has served the boat continuously throughout the years.

From May to September, Hjejlen and other excursion boats from the Hjejle fleet make daily trips from Silkeborg to Himmelbjerget, before continuing on to the charming small station town called Laven. The sail from Silkeborg to Himmelbjerget takes 1 hour and 15 minutes. To see the timetable, click here.

You also have the opportunity of experiencing the scenic sights of the Silkeborg lakes on an evening trip with Hjejlen, or one of the additional boats. For more information about this, go to the website, www.hjejlen.com
