Sightseeing with Hjejlen

Hjejlen is the world's oldest original coal-fired steamer in operation. During the summer, it and other tour boats in the Hjejle fleet sail daily from Silkeborg to Himmelbjerget and also between Ry and Himmelbjerget.

It will take you for an experience back in time, bestowing you with unique insights into historic routines, which have been upheld for more than 150 years. Watch as the stoker throws coal under the boiler, or as the engineer greases the old machine, which has served the boat continuously throughout the years.

From May to September

From May to September, Hjejlen and other excursion boats from the Hjejle fleet make daily trips from Silkeborg to Himmelbjerget, before continuing on to the charming small station town called Laven. The sail from Silkeborg to Himmelbjerget takes 1 hour and 15 minutes. To see the timetable, click here.

You also have the opportunity of experiencing the scenic sights of the Silkeborg lakes on an evening trip with Hjejlen, or one of the additional boats.
