Denmark's Largest Forest


At 85 km², the area of woodland South of Silkeborg is the largest in the country; and that's not counting a further 41 km² of woodland around Silkeborg itself. All in all, a unique area of outstanding countryside.

Himmelbjerget


Himmelbjerget (The Sky Hill) makes a natural viewpoint as its 147 meters lift it above the surrounding landscape, making it a clearly visible landmark. Visit it by car or bike or on foot, or even on Hjejlen, the world's oldest steamship.
The area of woodland south of Silkeborg is the country's largest at 85 square kilometres. Plus there are 41 additional square kilometres around Silkeborg - all in all a spectacular and unique area of countryside.

The River Guden (Gudenåen) and Silkeborg Lakes are the perfect place for an active canoeing holiday in beautiful and peaceful surroundings. Just outside Silkeborg you can experience birds of prey really close up. Hawks, owls, falcons and many other beautiful birds of prey provide daily shows during the high season. Plus there's the opportunity to learn more about the character and history of the various different species.

The Silkeborg area features Denmark's most extensive area of lakes. There are plenty of bathing lakes to choose from including: Almindsø, Slåensø, Thorsø, Hinge Sø and Bryrup Langsø to name but a few - it all adds up to plenty of opportunities for a refreshing dip.
