The oldest history of Silkeborg is connected to Silkeborg Castle, which was lying on Slotsholmen north east of the present centre of Silkeborg, at the outfall of the Gudenå River in Silkeborg Langsø.

The castle was built in 1385. It was demolished in 1726 after a number of years in decay.

There is a bridge across the river that leads to the marked ruin just before the bridge by the barrage to Alderslyst.

There are parking opportunities by the mall Kvickly. Go in direction of the Viborg-bridge. Before the bridge there is a path to Slotsholmen on your right.
