Rambling on the ancient Hærvej

In the Middle Ages pilgrims followed this route South from Scandinavia to the important pilgrimage sites in Southern Europe such as Santiago de Compostella and Rome. In Denmark, pilgrims followed the ancient Hærvej which became popularly known as the pilgrim's way.

The route follows the ancient Hærvej, which follows the course of Jutlands Ridge. To guide you on your way you can take a detailed guidebook containing both maps and descriptions. The route features a number of huts in which you can seek shelter from the elements should this prove necessary.

Accommodation En Route

At intervals along the pilgrim route, shelters have been established in former Inns and abandoned farm buildings. Today's travellers can thereby experience the same humble accommodation, with sleeping arrangements in dormitories, as pilgrims of the Middle Ages.
