How to pack the canoe

Here you will find advice and tips relating to the best way to pack your canoe and what equipment you should take with you. If you follow this advice your canoe should remain stable through out your trip.
Remember! Only bring items that are absolutely necessary.

Pack your canoe with care. Ensure that your baggage is distributed in such a fashion that it does not roll around at the bottom of the canoe. Tie a line to each item of baggage and attach it to the canoe, that way you'll be able to recover your baggage if the canoe should capsize.

Always pack heavy items above the keel in the front 1/3 of the boat. When the canoe has been packed and everyone is on board it should be horizontal.


The number of persons in a canoe can be combined in the following ways: • 2 pers.: 2 adults or 1 adult + 1 child • 3 pers.: 3 adults* or 2 adults + 1 child • 4 pers.: 2 adults + 2 children** * = only in aluminium canoes **= only in aluminium canoes, both children must be aged 10 or under.

Equipment

There isn't a lot of space in a canoe and we recommend that each passenger take a maximum of two bags, a sleeping bag and sleeping mat. Use one bag to pack things you may need whilst on the water and the other to pack everything else.

It's a good idea to put all bags in plastic bags to make sure everything stays dry.
